I have a CCIE #5000 , and Ive been suspended for many years. Im now a Director of communications strategy for a global fortune 500 company.
The CCIE helped me get where I am, but its somewhat irrelevant to me now since Im not about to login to a router any time soon. I think the Emeritus program is a good idea, but to preclude those who are already inactive is a mistake. At this point, Cisco’s continued progression in making the CCIE into a money making scheme has put them into a hole that Novell would spell CNE or MCNE. At this point in my career the thought that Cisco would pitch a hissy fit because I called myself a CCIE is ridicuous esepcially since they spend a lot of time here trying to sell me stuff.
Do I still consider myself a CCIE - yes.. I studied a lot and spent 2 days in San Jose to get it. Sorry, you don’t get to take that away from me, just as when Im interviewing, I dont ask about recert.. if you passed the CCIE you’ve set a minimum standard and demonstrated a minimum standard of brain power. The rest is just catch-up on the new technology.

Não entendi bem a vantagem do programa. Pelo que li a única vantagem é que se vc quiser voltar a ser full CCIE basta fazer a prova escrita. Se vc não fosse emerito teria de fazer tambem a prova de lab. Achei muito trabalho (pagando taxa e enviando documentos todo ano) para não ter muitos benefícios.
Afinal uma vez CCIE, sempre CCIE certo ? se fosse um programa que vc simplesmente ganhasse acesso após 10 anos e não tivesse de ficar comprovando trabalhos em rede todo ano seria mais válido. Como disse o ferrugem, espero opiniões de CCIEs sobre o assunto ou quem já é veterano em redes.
